Hello everyone! First and foremost, I want to apologize for pulling another disappearing act. Time just slipped away, my mind was in other places, and once again I found myself at a lost for what to blog about.
Starting today, I’m going to be doing a monthly post where I will be sharing a free, downloadable sticker sheet with all of my readers. Aside from this one, these sheets will be posted on the first of every month, each with a different theme, and different colors. Some of you know that I have my own Etsy shop, but I wanted to do something for all of my amazing readers. I will list a PDF and a Silhouette file, that way if you have a Silhouette you can cut it using that, but if not you can still cut the stickers by hand. So without further delay, here are the links to download your October Freebie!
Hello everyone! I wanted to share some products that I’ve been loving lately. These products range from planner supplies, to makeup and skincare, to random things. I’m not sure if I have talked about this before, but in case I didn’t, I work at Sephora as a skincare consultant, and I discover and fall in love with so many amazing products, so I wanted to share these products that actually work with all of you!
I’m going to start with planner related things, and my first favorite is actually a new planner that I received as a gift from my boyfriend! It’s a compact size Filofax Saffiano in the color Poppy. I’ve been loving using a smaller planner to carry around with me as my personal planner. This planner is small enough to throw into my bag, but not take up too much room or weigh down my bag. I’ve made my own inserts for my planner, which you can purchase through my Etsy shop!
My next favorite are these new pens that I have been using. I still love my Papermate Inkjoy colorful pens, but for plain black ink I’ve been obsessed with the Pilot G-2 gel pens in the size 07 (or is it .07?). These pens write SO smoothly, the ink is jet black, and they don’t bleed through my planner pages nor do they leave much of a shadow on the other side of the page. My handwriting is by no means attractive, but these pens somehow make it look prettier. I got mine at Target, but you can find these anywhere office supplies are sold.
Moving into skincare favorites, my third favorite is what I’ve been using to remove my makeup. It is the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm. This stuff is heavenly. It takes off every single drop of makeup, doesn’t irritate your eyes, doesn’t leave a residue or film like some other cleansing balms can, and you only need a tiny bit to take off an entire face of makeup. You just massage a small amount between your fingers and then massage onto your face, including your eye area, then add a small amount of water to turn the balm into a milky cleanser that will remove every trace of makeup. I cannot say enough good things about this product, and if you’re looking for a good way to remove makeup, I 100% recommend this.
My next favorite is a bit on the pricier side, but I promise once you try this you will be just as hooked as I am. It is the Luna Sleeping Night Oil from Sunday Riley. This is an oil you apply before bed, and it contains Blue Tansy and Retinol Ester.
Retinol Ester is a derivative of Retinol, but is both water and fat soluble. This means it will have all the benefits of Retinol, but will not have the same harsh side effects (like drying and irritation) that traditional Retinol does. Blue Tansy works to heal damaged, irritated skin (even Eczema!) and has anti-redness properties. You need literally one drop to cover your face. After washing your face, apply just a drop of Luna to clean skin, and press into skin for maximum absorption. The oil will apply blue, but once it’s absorbed it will turn clean, so don’t be alarmed by the color! This oil has made such a difference in my skin, and I cannot imagine going to bed without applying this!
My next favorite is another Sunday Riley product. Good Genes is a treatment that contains blue agave and prickly pear extracts- which are also ingredients used to make Tequila. These ingredients are actually becoming scarce, which is why this product, and tequila are both expensive. In fact, the first two ingredients in Good Genes are prickly pear and blue agave extracts, so although this product may have a higher price point, you’re paying for the good ingredients, not a product that’s loaded with water. Good Genes will gently exfoliate the skin, help brighten dullness, and refine pores. This product also contains lactic acid, which will firm and plump fine lines and wrinkles. I use this during the day, and between this and Luna Sleeping Night Oil my skin has been looking better than ever. Sunday Riley is a chemist by trade, and makes up the first batch of every product in her kitchen. Her products are seriously some of the best that I’ve ever tried.
My third skincare favorite is a daily peel from PeterThomasRoth.TheUnwrinklePeel Pads are completely remarkable. The pads contain a 20% acid complex, including alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, and gamma hydroxy acids. The alpha hydroxy acids are glycolic and lactic, which work to exfoliate the skin to reveal smoother, brighter skin underneath. The beta hydroxy acid is salicylic, which absorbs excess oil on the skin to help banish breakouts and clear pores. The gamma hydroxy acid is linolenic, which helps to increase hydration and strengthen skin cells. I have recently been breaking out along my jawline, and in just the short amount of time that I’ve been using these they have cleared up my breakouts like nothing I’ve ever tried before. When using these you swipe the pad all over your face and neck, leave on for 2-3 minutes, and then neutralize the acids with water. I am 110% obsessed with these pads!
My first makeup favorite is something that I actually have only used twice, but I have fallen head over heels in love. I am actually going to make this favorite a two part favorite because my two makeup favorites go hand in hand. The Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation and the Make Up Forever #108 Foundation Brush are a match made in Heaven. The original HD Foundation was created for HD technology 7 years ago, and since then HD has become 4K. The Ultra HD Foundation is created for 4K technology, so it blurs and perfects even better than the original. Like the original, the Ultra HD Foundation has amino acid covered pigments, that work best when layered on top of one another, as opposed to being buffed out, and contains hyalauronic spheres that help to keep skin looking hydrated and smooth. This foundation applied with the MUFE #108 Foundation Brush is everything I have ever wanted in a foundation. It blends beautifully, covers flawlessly, feels lightweight, and looks like skin, but better. The foundation brush is so soft and the bristles just blend this foundation seamlessly. Dany Sanz hit it out of the park with this foundation, and I am completely obsessed with it.
Although this was a bit of a longer post, I hope you all enjoyed reading about some of the things that I have been loving lately. Let me know in the comments if you would like more of these favorites types of posts!
Love and messes,
Hello all! My Etsy shop is currently having a flash Sale!! All orders of $10 or more will receive 40% off with the code “40off”! This will be going on until Saturday 7/25 so now is the perfect time to order!!
Hello! Today I am excited to start my new series “Project Craft Room”! My mom and I are both creative and love doing DIY projects. We have a large room in our house that was basically being used as a room to store things no one used. My mom and I decided that we were going to clean out that room and turn it into a craft room. I needed a place to set up my Silhouette Portrait and printer in order to print and cut stickers for my Etsy shop, and my mom wants to move all her sewing equipment and supplies from the living room. Basically what this series is going to be is the transformation of that room into our craft room. I’ll be posting photos of how we decorate, how we’re storing and organizing things, and different DIY projects that we’re working on. I hope you are as excited as I am about this new fun series!
Hello! First I want to apologize for my lack of posting recently. To be completely honest I just have been drawing blanks on what I want to post lately and I didn’t want to put up content that I wasn’t in love with, so I guess I went on a miniature hiatus. I’ve been spending the last few days thinking about what I want this blog to become. I think I’ve been limiting myself with only posting about planning, because even though I am passionate about planning, productivity, and organization, I also love DIY projects, makeup and skincare, and interior design. I called my blog “My Planned Mess”, and although the title may imply that I will only be talking about planning, I made the tagline “Planning out my mess of a life”, which I think can mean a ton of different things. I want to discuss my other passions with all of you because that is why I started this blog in the first place, to share what I love with other people around the world. I always said that if only one person read my blog, or only one person found one thing that I have said to be helpful, insightful, or inspirational in any way, then I have done what I set out to do. With that being said, I have decided to do a somewhat of a revamp of my blog, with more categories, more variety, and more of what I love. I hope you all can understand where I am coming from, and I’m sure I am not the first person to have ever done this. I’m thankful for each and every person who reads what I write, and I hope that with posting more variety I will continue to be inspired and post on here more often. My goal is to post three times a week, most likely Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I promise I will try my best to stick with this plan and put up good quality posts that you will enjoy reading. Thank you to everyone who has read this post to the end, I really do appreciate you!
Hello! I first want to apologize for the lack of posts recently, I was on vacation last week so I didn’t have much time to post, but I will be back starting today with some fun new things! I will be doing a plan with me post today (even though it is a few days late, once again, I apologize!), but this weeks plan with me is a little different than ones in the past. I had previously been using my Erin Condren Life Planner in my Kikki K a5 sized binder, but I was still searching for “planner peace”. I think me not finding planner peace is for two reasons: 1. I wasn’t completely in love with the Erin Condren layout. I love the vertical design, but I don’t need “morning”, “day”, and “night” sections, in fact, I don’t need sections at all. I like something more like the Plum Paper design where it’s just one vertical column for each day and you can choose to have lines instead of sections. I also wanted a space for a daily checklist, to remind me to take my multivitamin every day, without having to write it down every single day. Reason 2. I think I want a smaller planner. I plan on getting the compact sized Filofax because I think it would suit me better for my daily planner, and I will keep my Kikki K as my “business and life binder”, which I will do a post about on Friday! Since I don’t yet have the compact size Filofax, I decided to try and make my own inserts for my Kikki K. I found various tutorials on how to make them, and just kinda went for it. I really love how they came out, and with that being said let’s get into planning! First, I made my own month on two pages spread. This is laid out similar to the Erin Condren Life Planner, or really any other month on two pages spread for that matter. I kept it simple to allow myself to decorate it as I wish, and be able to put more personal touches, rather than be stuck with a color scheme all month (I got tired of the monthly colors half way through the month anyway). There is also a notes section on the right hand side where you can write down anything you like!
The weekly pages are where I did more customization. It is a week on two pages spread, with
half boxes for Saturday and Sunday. There is a plain bar at the top and just one column without sections, so you can title your plans anything you like. You also have the option of splitting the day into sections if you choose. This picture is hard to see (there are zoomed in pictures later on in the post), but along the bottom there are sections for goals, notes, and a daily checklist. This layout just seems more practical to me, and has all the elements I felt I was missing. I kept my decorating pretty simple for this week, but I added in some patriotic touches since Independence Day is Saturday :).
I always use my month on two pages as a financial tracker to remind me when bills are due and when I get paid. If I have any appointments (such as doctors appointments and what not) I will write them in here too. You can see that I have a Target Dollar Spot sticky flag on the 10th, I use this to mark my auto insurance bill because that is the only bill I have that isn’t automatic debit, so when I pay my auto insurance, I can move the flag over to the bottom of my notes section so I know that I’ve paid that bill for the month.
To start off decorating for the week, I added some washi tape to the bottom of my page, the tape is a little shorter than the page, and I could’ve added more to cover up the white, but it doesn’t really bother me too much.
I then went in and added my weather for the week. There is space above the dates to add the stickers, and space to the right of Sunday to add stickers or other decorations there as well. I’m really hoping the rain holds off on Saturday, and I hope everyone has fun plans for the holiday! To keep with my red, white, and blue theme going on, I added my water tracking stickers to the bottom of my daily boxes. My mom and I just bought infusion bottles to add fruit to our water, and we are obsessed! This is definitely helping me to want to drink more water during the day, so that at the end of the night I can actually feel good when I have all of the boxes on my water bottles checked off! After the water bottles, I went through and added checklists to all the week days. I use these to make my daily to-do lists. I like that I have room underneath the checklists to decorate with stickers if I want to, or I can add additional things I need to during the week. Next I added my run stickers, as well as my weekly sticker for the 52 week money saving challenge. I finally joined a gym today so now even if it is raining I have no excuse to not work out. Plus I am much more likely to go to the gym if I am paying for it every month. I also added a little blow dryer sticker because I was supposed to get my hair cut yesterday, but it got rescheduled until Friday. Lastly, I filled in my daily checklist and goals sections of my page. Here is a zoomed in picture so you can see it more clearly. I use this as a reminder of things that I want to be doing every day, and I can use it as a way to look back on my progress for things such as working out and remembering to track my water intake.
I forgot to take a picture of my final weekly spread, but check my instagram @myplannedmess for a mid week and end of the week spread in my new custom planner inserts. These inserts will be available in my Etsy Shop towards the middle of the month, I will have an August 2015-December 2015 version, as well as an August 2015- December 2016 version! I hope you all enjoyed this post, and keep an eye out for my business/ life binder overview later in the week!
Hello all, I’ve been thinking a lot about why I enjoy planning, and keeping to-do lists, and keeping my surroundings tidy. I haven’t always been this way, and I would be lying if I said I do always keep these things in check. I started using a planner in middle school, because my school gave one to every student to use and taught us the gist of how to use them. I was the kid that left my planner in my desk every other night and therefore didn’t know what homework or other school related things I had due, and it wasn’t until college that I really started to enjoy using a planner (and actually remembering to use it). I think part of this was because: 1. I was choosing to use it, and 2. I bought pretty planners so it would make me more likely to use it. I used my planner in college to keep track of assignments, finals and midterms, projects, sorority events…you get the idea, but now I use my planner much differently. It was difficult at first when I graduated from college, because I wanted to use my planner but I didn’t really have much to plan aside from work. Now I use my planner for my blog and my Etsy business, along with bills, and other financial needs, and I still use it for work. So, although this was probably the longest intro ever, I wanted to give a little background to why I planned, so here are my top 3 tips for keeping organized!
1. Buy/ use organization tools that you enjoy looking at and using- this goes back to me talking about not really using a planner until college, and I know that this was because in college I was able to buy my own planner with designs, patterns, and layouts that I enjoyed using. Towards the end of college I began using color coding for my classes, and I enjoyed writing in pretty colors. This sounds silly, but it’s just like reading for school, if you enjoy the material you’re reading, you’re more likely to engage and actually want to do the work-if you hate the material you’re more likely to half-ass it (I too, was guilty of this).
2. Do a little bit each day- flashback to high school, and my freshman year of college. I. Was. A. Mess. My room (both dorm room, and bedroom at home) was messy, my school books and papers were messy, and I was probably the least organized/ tidy person I knew. Fast forward to last spring. I knew I was getting ready to graduate college and that I would be living back at home soon, so I completely purged my room. This took me over a month to do, but it was so, so worth it. I then redecorated my room in a way I loved (and still love!) and I have a place for everything in my room. Doing a little bit of cleaning each day (for maybe 15-20 minutes) is a great way to not only get your space back to looking its’ best, but it is also a great habit to get into to keep your space clean and orderly. Since I live with my parents, I’m really only responsible for keeping my bedroom and bathroom clean. I assign one task to each day (take out garbage, sweep, clean shower, dust, etc.), this way I’m not overwhelmed with doing a ton of things at once, but I’m also not doing nothing and letting chores pile up!
3. Use a method that works for you- Not every tip or cleaning checklist or planner you see on Pinterest or anywhere else online is going to be perfect for you. For example, I like to make a to-do list at night before bed, that way I can do sort of a “brain dump” and get everything out of my mind so I can go to sleep worry free. Not everybody likes to make to-do lists, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Find a planner with a layout that works for you, and a system of organization that works for you, make one up if you have to! It may take some time, but this is probably my best out of the three tips.
Those of you who have graduated from college/ university will understand the sinking feeling in your stomach that I have been experiencing recently. The feeling of your grace period for your student loans coming quickly to an end. Mine ends in a few days, and I am trying to enjoy the money I currently have by looking at my bank account periodically throughout the day and smiling because I still have a decent amount of money…for now. With that being said, I decided I needed to create some sort of spreadsheet to ensure that I am paying off my large sum of student debt, along with car payments, auto insurance payments, and still making sure that I am putting some money into my savings account. I created a spreadsheet in Excel that I can punch and put into my Kikki K binder that I am slowly transitioning into my life binder…but more on that in another post. Some of you may know that I am doing a “no spend June”, I’ve slipped 4 days so far, but that’s only 1/4 of the month, and twice the expenses have been food so it’s not like I’m just spending money on things I didn’t need. I’m gonna share my finances sheet with you guys in case you were looking for something similar. So as you can see, there’s a place for you to write the bill you need to pay, the amount, and then a spot to check off each month you pay. You can see the first row has 2 spots for each month, I use this because I deposit money into a savings account twice a month, but you can use it for anything you pay twice a month. I’ve included a link at the end of this post where you can download a PDF version of this sheet. It’s A5 sized, but you can always just print it on standard 8.5/11 paper and stick it in a standard sized binder if you don’t have an A5 sized binder.
I hope this was helpful to some of you, and please let me know if you like or use the sheet! Finances Sheet1
Hello lovelies! I’m going to share my planning routine for the upcoming week with you all! I did much, much simpler planning this week. I didn’t use a lot of decoration, and I didn’t fill in any of the days ahead of time, aside from my blog/ Etsy to-dos. I also did my goals and notes a little differently, but we will get to that towards the end of the post. I hope you all had a fantastic week, and I am going to be better about posting more throughout the week, and I already have my posts planned out, so stay tuned for those! But for now, let’s get into planning. You’ve all seen this about 10 times from me now, but as always I’m starting out with my sticky notes that I used to pre plan throughout the week. I apologize for the glare on the white paper, but you’ve all seen this before so it’s not too big of a deal. I don’t have too much planned for this week, which is why I ended up going for a simpler layout for the week. I added this really pretty yellow washi tape that I bought at Michael’s to the bottom, I thought the yellow and green in the tape complimented the June colors nicely. I thought it also added some brightness to the page! Next I aded my weather stickers and the temperatures to the tops of the days. This week is supposed to be pretty bad weather, so I guess I’ll be spending a lot of time indoors. Speaking of being indoors, I added my workouts to the morning section of the days. If it does end up raining 4 days this week, instead of running I’ll do a workout video from Tone It Up! I can still do my toning, which I talked a little bit about before in my fitness journal post, but for my toning I use the apps 30 Day Squats Challenge, 30 Day Pushups Challenge, and the 30 Day Abs Challenge. These are all free apps and I find that having them on my phone makes me more likely to do them. Although you’re only doing about 10 minutes worth of workouts, you can definitely feel it working. I then went through and added in my work schedule. I wrote this in pink like I always do. I only work a few days this week, which is why you’re not seeing much pink on my spread this week. Then I added work I need to do for my blog, which includes typing, editing, and publishing posts. I also added things I need to do for my Etsy shop, which is to add new listings, create new designs, and print and cut. I only wrote down when I need to add new listings to my Etsy shop, and when I need to type and publish posts for my blog. Creating new designs is just something I do throughout the week, but I will go more into that in a bit.
I added my run and water bottle stickers to the yellow washi tape at the bottom. I used yellow and blue, but it’s almost impossible to see the yellow run stickers in this picture, and to be completely honest, it’s somewhat hard to see them in person too haha! The only real planning ahead I did, other than what I’ve already mentioned, is to wash my sheets and clean my makeup brushes on Monday (today). I left the rest of the week blank, and I’ll fill them in the night before. I used my hamper stickers and my makeup brush jar stickers to add a little bit of decoration to the page.
Going back to what I was saying before about creating new designs for my Etsy shop, and how I don’t plan when I’m going to make new designs, I don’t plan when I’m going to make them, but I do set weekly goals for myself for my shop. Since the only things I have control over are how many listings I add and how many new stickers I create, I set weekly goals for myself for each. I also use my goals and notes section to set goals for my fitness and water intake. I used a heart checklist from Scribble Prints Co. to make my goals list more of a checklist, so I can cross off my goals as I complete them. Finally, here’s a look at my completed weekly spread, I actually am liking this simpler layout, it doesn’t feel too busy, and sometimes I get overwhelmed when there are a ton of stickers on pages because I don’t even know what to look at. I may add a few more embellishments to the page throughout the week, and if I do I’ll be sure to post it on my Instagram. If you’re not already, feel free to follow me on Instagram @Myplannedmess!
I hope you all enjoyed planning with me this week, and be on the look out for more posts throughout the week!
Love and Messes,
Hello all! I’m sorry I put this up late, but better late than never! I did my planning a little differently, as you will see below, but nothing too drastic. So, let’s get into planning! First, as you can see, I did my pre-planning on a sticky note like I always do. I saw on a video that Andrea from Scribble Prints Co. that she had sticky notes that had the days of the week on them, so I was thinking about making my own version of them (since I’m trying to not spend money this month). Until then though, I will use my plain white ones lol! You can also see that I accidentally wrote last Thursday’s work and blog schedule on this Monday’s slot by accident, oops! Next, I added some washi tape along the bottom of the boxes. One of my managers at work was so sweet and bought me this washi tape that I love! I thought the colors went so well with the June colors, so I was so thankful that she thought of me! Next I put the weather at the top of my boxes like I always do, and I also added a small journaling card from Heidi Swapp to cover up the things I wrote on Monday, since I wasn’t doing those same things. I thought the blue water colors on this card matched the monthly colors really well. Next is where I did something different, I didn’t print out my custom headers that I usually do for the “morning”, “day”, and “night” headers. I wasn’t absolutely in love with the ones I was making, and I’m going to be completely honest in that I may either purchase a Plum Paper Planner, because you can order a vertical version with just lines to write on, with no headers, or I may try the horizontal Erin Condren Life Planner. I haven’t found my “planner peace” and I think the headers are what are throwing me off. I used my heart checklist sticker, dot stickers, and laundry basket sticker to mark things I needed to do for the day. Next, I planned out my Tuesday, and I had to help my brother wash a car that my dad is working on, so I used one of my car stickers, which will be listed in my Etsy shop this week! Again I did something a bit different, I usually add one or two things to my to do list and leave the rest of the list blank, but this week I pretty much planned out everything I needed to do this week. I also added my run stickers to the bottom to mark days when I am going running. Next I planned out my Wednesday, I added one of my new makeup brush jar stickers, since I want to wash my makeup brushes on Wednesday. I also wrote to pack my beach bag since my boyfriend and I are going to the beach on Thursday! It will be my first beach trip of the summer so I am very excited! You can also see here I added some of my new water bottle stickers that I have been loving! These are currently available in my Etsy shop, along with the makeup brush jars. Next I moved on to the second half of the week. I’m not sure why I completely plan my first half of the week, and then move on to the second half, but that’s just what works for me! Once again you can see that I used sticky notes to pre-plan my work schedule and workouts. I then went through and added my weather stickers and the temperatures, and one of my weekend banners. The colors don’t match perfectly, but I think they went nicely with the color theme I was going for this week. I also added my washi tape to it matched the first half of the week. I then just finished planing out the rest of my week, I added some stickers to decorate and just wrote out what I needed to do each day. I did a bit more decorating than usual on Thursday, since I am going to be at the beach all day. I’m not a fan of leaving just blank space, so I added some stickers to dress up the page a little bit. Here you can see the finished second half of the week. I’m happy with how it turned out, but I will still be on the hunt to find the perfect headers for the boxes. Here’s a look at the whole finished week back in my Kikki-K binder. I really am happy with the colors I went with for the week, I think they look really nice together.
I hope you all enjoyed this post! And keep an eye out later in the week for more!
